Now that you’ve made the decision to spend the rest of your life with someone, the tough decisions don’t end there! Brides have to answer many questions when it comes to the wedding day. Where is the wedding going to be held? Who is all going to attend? And what will they wear?
Choosing a wedding dress can be overwhelming for even the most fashion-focused and trend savvy bride. A lot of brides have envisioned themselves on their wedding day, but when it actually comes to picking out the dress, the process just brings about more questions to answer. Now, before you get overwhelmed, don’t think you have to have all of the answers when you make your first appointment to try on wedding dresses. Having an idea about a shape you might like, details you would like to see, and what kind of fabric you prefer is a great place to start. Even if you don’t quite know yet, having an idea of what you don’t want is a good starting point too. If you’re coming in to Strike Bridal Bar to find your dress, rest assured that your Striking Stylist will help narrow down what you like and don’t like throughout your appointment.
Wedding dresses can come in a variety of fabrics, with new options or variations being introduced by designers all the time. Depending on the bride, there is truly a wedding dress fabric for everyone. Let’s explore a few of the most popular fabrics used in bridal dresses.
Chiffon
Chiffon is a popular fabric for both wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. It is a lightweight fabric that has a slight sheen to it. It has a gorgeous flow to it that makes it feel romantic and elegant. Because it can be incredibly sheer, chiffon is often used as an overlay or in layers on the skirt of the dress. Chiffon would be a perfect option for a bride who wants a lightweight dress with a slight sheen.
At Strike Bridal Bar, you will find chiffon details on dresses from Studio Levana, Sarah Seven, Studio Levana, as well as others.
Crepe
Crepe is another lightweight fabric option that typically has a smooth, matte finish. Crepe is a gorgeous option as, depending on the quality of the crepe fabric, it has a clean, crisp look. It also has a bit of stretch to it, which is why we have heard our brides rave about how comfortable they are in dresses made of crepe.
At Strike Bridal Bar, most of our crepe dresses are from Sarah Seven, who is known for her elegant, sophisticated, and clean designs.
Lace
Though there are many different styles of lace (that could be a separate blog post on its own), a lot of brides love lace dresses or details on their wedding dresses. It is a fine, open fabric that is made by looping or twisting thread in a variety of patterns. Depending on the designer and the pattern, lace can be a great option for a more traditional bride, a bride who loves romantic details, or a bohemian bride. Even if you don’t want a completely lace dress, there are many options that have lace details or appliques.
Lace takes many forms in the bridal dresses available at Strike Bridal Bar, and most of our designers have a variation of lace included in their designs. Most commonly, Alena Leena, our Strike Private Collection, and Rish offer beautiful lace dresses.
Satin
Another popular fabric in the bridal industry is satin. It is a more medium weight fabric that is known for its shiny surface and matte back. It is typically heavier than crepe and has more of a sheen. Satin has a very rich feel to it so it’s no wonder that it’s one of the most popular bridal fabrics. It’s loved for its durability and versatility. You can’t go wrong with a traditional, classic satin dress in any silhouette.
At Strike Bridal Bar, our collection of dresses from Rose + Williams by Tara LaTour is full of beautiful satin options. Known for her satin A-lines, Tara LaTour offers a number of elegant and classic satin dresses.
Tulle
Tulle is a sheer, lightweight fabric that is also very popular in wedding dresses. Since it has a stiffer feel to it, it is commonly used in the skirts of wedding dresses to provide a fuller look. Even if the outer layer of the wedding dress isn’t tulle, it’s likely that there are tulle layers underneath if the silhouette of the dress is a ball gown or an A-line. Wedding dresses with tulle typically have a romantic, elegant, and airy feeling.
Most of the designers at Strike have tulle incorporated into their wedding dresses in some capacity, with full tulle dresses being offered by Studio Levana, Alena Leena, and the Strike Private Collection.
